Having Faces: Being Neighbor

I came to Guatemala with a Graduate Preaching Fellowship in 2004 to learn to be neighbor. I was ordained at the St. Paul Area Synod Assembly in June 2007 as a pastor of the Iglesia Luterana Agustina de Guatemala and commissioned for service by two Synods of the ELCA and the Global Mission Unit of the ELCA. I serve in Guatemala with the ILAG as a missionary and a pastor.

Seeing the Sights

The National Council Meeting ended last Wednesday… but before sending all the leaders home Padre decided to give them a new experience. These humble farmers, returned refugees, school teachers some had never seen the historic center of their country—the National Palace and Cathedra. We suspended classes half a day early and everyone went downtown in buses. Like school children, the excitement on their faces was hard to miss. They arrived and were given a tour of their capital… a tour that anyone else can receive. For them to be treated like equals by others of their country is notable. They all returned content… and with requests to go to the National Zoo next year!
